Academic excellence should be the goal of every student, especially the ones that are serious. excellence in knowledge must be their aspiration. One who has neither attained excellence nor is striving for it is simply a mediocre. Unfortunately, the society in which we find ourselves mostly in Africa does not encourage excellence. But, serious student purpose must be different. Academic excellence is needed in other to have Professional Engineer that will build bridges that will not collapse. Excellence is the stuff those who will construct airplane that will fly and not crash needed to be made of. It is a requirement for those who will build roads that will last, persons who will construct durable cars that will generate foreign exchange for their nation, pharmacist that will manufacture drugs that will cure debilitating sicknesses and diseases and carry out research that will lead to discovery of drugs that will cure ravaging diseases. Academic excellence is important for Doctors who will perform complicated surgeries without losing the life of their patient or causing permanent organ or bodily damage to them. This way, there will be no need to always fly patient overseas for treatment from complex diseases, thereby impoverish our nations further. Academic excellence will help produce lawyers who can argue cases in such a manner that judges and the society can see far reaching implications of cases in hand, so that the legislators can be guided to make laws that promote equity and justice. Academic excellence will produce politician whose pride and joy will be in making laws that promote egalitarian society not in his pay package. Academic excellence will produce a teacher whose joy mostly will be in imparting knowledge to his students and making intelligent citizens. We can go on and on.
Academic excellence may ultimately result in much wealth, especially for those who add entrepreneurship to it, but it guarantees financial security of those who possess it. It is sure to promote sane society, ensures functional institutions and promises national wealth. It is a precursor for having functional hospitals, courts where justice are dispensed, effective educational institutions functional and effective water corporations, good governance and the rest.
Every child must therefore aspire for academic excellence, regardless of field of studies or chosen career. For students, here are some tips for academic excellence:

Tips for academic excellence for students

1). Never miss your classes or other opportunities to add to your knowledge: A class is a formal organization where important subjects are taught to students. The one who guides and give instructions on the subjects is the teacher. Whether or not the teacher is good, a student striving for excellence must always attend classes and pay good attention in classes. There is always something to learn, even from common day-to-day activities.

2). Be eager to learn new things and new methods of solving problems: To attain excellence, a student must seek answer to questions on every subjects he takes, even if the teacher does not mention it in class. One of the ways to do this is to look at the course content and study it, look for practical problems or likely examination questions on the subject matter and ensure that he/she solves them. There should be no room for giving up on any difficult topic. Many resource materials are available now a days. The internet can be used by typing the topic on Google, reading some important information about the subject, watching the movie of practical demonstrations of the some important lesson or teaching on the topic on YouTube. Student only need to type the questions he/she wants answered and the internet will come up with toms of options from which a student can pick and choose as necessary. An important caution here is you must not allow yourself be distracted by other things.

3). Do your homework and assignments even when they are not checked by the teacher: A student who is aspiring for excellence must, apart from reading his/ subjects to ensure the everything that has been taught is well understood, must also ensure that he/she is up-to-date in his or her homework and assignments.

4). Cultivate healthy habits: These include eating healthy food, taking adequate rest and keeping simple rules of hygiene. In other to have a sound mind, students must avoid any thing that could cause ill health. When the body is unwell, attending classes may become impossible or comprehension of the subjects may be impossible or difficult. It is therefore important to seek immediate medical attention when you feel unwell, before the situation becomes aggravated. Engage only in activities that promote sound mind. Avoid relationships such as having "boy or girl friends" before final year of tour studies in tertiary institution if you are not thinking of marrying in a year or two. This could lead to unnecessary distractions.

5). When you can't understand what you are reading anymore, take time off to rest: Mistake often made by many students is to try to spend long hours reading without break. Every individual has his/her attention span and limit. It is therefore, important for you to understand this and be guided by it. Reading beyond your attention span limit will amount to a waste of time and would do you no good. When you feel like resting, please go and rest. If you need to shower, do so. If you need to go and sleep, please do so. In some cases, you may just need to take a few minutes off walk or discussion with someone.

6). Be humble: No one knows everything. Do not pretend that you know what you do not know. Be humble enough to ask questions even if some people will consider it stupid or look down on you for it. I bet, you know better than many of those who may castigate you for being humble enough to ask questions about what you do not know.

7). Be in the right frame of mind: Being in the right frame of mind or rather maintaining a sound mind at all times is critical to academic excellence. Maintaining a sound mind involves avoiding anything that will confuse or blur the mind; auch as drugs, alcohol, inadequate sleep, relationship or activities etc. Sound mind is necessary for assimilation of different subjects that are taught or read and for their application or regurgitation during examinations.

8). Ask questions always and try to find correct answers to the questions that comes to mind about your subject of interest: When questions are left unanswered, very important opportunity for advancement and gaining knowledge are thrown away. Students seeking academic excellence must therefore find answers to all their questions.

9). Never cut corners: Most students often want the easy way out. They want to be crown without carrying the cross. The truth is that the difficulties you encounter while insisting on following the principled position increase your experience and add to your knowledge. A story was told of Thomas Edison who failed 10,000 times, using different ways, in his attempts to make a light bulb. In is popularly quotes as admitting that he succeeded in knowing 10,000 ways of not making a light bulb. He did not give up he continued until he succeeded and his effort paid off. Shortcut cuts life short, therefore, endure the hard discipline of following the hard, right and principled path.

10). Never give up on difficult problems but keep working on them until you are able to solve the problems: You need to persevere through difficulties and stay focused, if you are to become successful. You may after all be a few inches from the solution that you need for solving the problems on hand. If you give up too soon, your efforts may be wasted and you lose the gains that should have accrued to you.

11) Pursue knowledge, don't try to impress anyone: To attain excellence, it is important to be curious and to pursue knowledge always. Almost too often, particularly in Africa, the people you are expecting praise from may end up not appreciating what you are doing and may even castigate you instead of praising you. Academic excellence in itself, sooner or later, will not only sit you among the honorable, but has the potential for making you famous and winning you a lot of respect. Therefore, even when you are not appreciated, continue to pursue it. Seeking to impress some people or group of people has the potential for making you cut-corners and making you become proud. Seeking it because it is right thing to do helps you to remain humble.

12). Be organized: Organization involves arranging your things and your movement for maximum benefits. Sometimes it may involve labelling some items that could bring confusion when you store them. Similar or related items kept together helps you to find everything around the same place without having to waste much time. Planning your outing for maximum benefit helps you to save a lot of time so that it can be used for something productive.

13). Never allow work to pile up: Procrastination is the thief of time . Just the way time is needed for healing of wound, for digestion of food, for bad memories to be erased and for growth of plant and animal to take place to maturity and all these processes take place gradually. Acquisition of knowledge for academic excellence is also a gradual process requiring time for deep understanding. It is therefore important to know that academic knowledge rushed cannot be of much use. Reading, studying and practice of academic exercises or studies must be done regularly, consistently, utilizing whatever opportunity presents itself. A student who decides to leave his reading and studying until when tests and examinations are fast approaching CANNOT excel academically. Reading and studying must begin the moment you know a particular course is a requirement for you. Under worst case scenario, the day the first lecture on the subject is received is the day to start studying it.

14). Share what you know with others: A story was told of a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year, he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.
"How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with you each year?" the reporter asked. "Why sir," said the farmer, "Didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbor grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If i am to grow corn, i must help my neighbors grow good corn." So is with our lives... Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all. Those who want to excel must lift up others to position of excellence. The more you share your knowledge the brighter it becomes and the more insight gained.

15). Apply what you have read: One important way to have a grasp of concepts is by putting them to use. What you do not use becomes forgotten and useless. Putting into practice what is learnt helps one to understand better some things that are lacking in the theory and helps one to excel in one's endeavors. Conceptually, the learning modules were based on principles that were enunciated by Chinese philosopher and reformer Confucius (551 BC to 479 BC), who stated "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." Everyone who must excel academically must learn to practice what is leant.

I welcome you all to today's tutorial on how to service a mobile phone that fell into water.
Without taking much of your time i will love to discuss briefly why you need to service your phone immediately after it fell into water or water mistakenly splash on it.

Reason why you should service a phone that fell into water
Phones are made of several components such as "diode, capacitor, integrated circuit," etc. These components does not like water. Any moment your phone fell into water this components will start absorbing the water and in return your phone panel will began to rust slowly until when it finally damaged the panel though it takes time but you need to service your phone before then.
So what are the things you need to service a phone that fell into water.

1). Brush, i recommend toothbrush
2). Petrol or spirit
3). Phone screw driver and picker

How to service an Android phone that fell into water
1). Remove your sims and memory card
2). Unscrew the phone using phone screw driver
3). Use your finger or plastic rubber to open the phone from side, be careful and do it gently
4). Unclip and detach the calibrator, screen, battery, cameras from the panel, and be mindful of the power switch with other flex you see.
5). Bring out the panel and search for "mouthpiece".
6). Use your hand to cover the surface of the mouthpiece.
7). Deep your brush inside petrol or spirit and start servicing the panel, scrub gently and make sure your brush touches every part excluding mouthpiece, cameras and speakers.
Note: if your battery is soldered then you will need to desold it using soldering iron, and if you don't have soldering iron no need to worry you can still scrub your panel without unsoldering the battery.
8). Dry your panel under sunlight for some minutes and return everything back to it position.
9). Tie the screw gently, don't use force.
10). Turn on your phone and enjoy.

Replacing a phone speaker is as simple as ABC if you know which one to change because a mobile phone usually comes with two speakers, one at the front for making calls and the second one at the back for listening to music, sounds records, ringing tunes etc.

So, how can you differentiate between the two speakers and know which one to change
1). If you can't hear the opponent voice during outgoing or incoming calls then you should know that your phone is having a ("front" speaker issue).
2). If your phone ringing out, music and other sounds stopped working apart from hearing opponent voice during calls then your phone is having a ("back" speaker issue).

How will you know your phone is having a speaker issue
1). Decrease in sound quality when playing music or making calls
2). Sound stop working
3). Sounds cracking

1). Phone screw driver
2). Replacement speaker (you can get it at the market)
3). Soldering iron (if your phone speaker is wire)

How to replace phone speakers
1). Remove your sims and memory card
2). Unscrew the phone and use your finger or plastic rubber to open the phone from side
3). Locate the speaker
4). Go to the market or any mobile repair shop and get the exact speaker. I suggest you hold the old speaker with you as sample.
5). Remove the old speaker and replace it with the new one.
If it comes with wire then you need soldering iron, but if it does not comes with wire then you don't need soldering iron to change it.
5). After changing, arrange the phone and test your speaker.

The two terms 'militate' and 'excellence' are contradictory. On one hand, militate denotes to oppose or have negative influence on something. On the other hand, excellence implies being outstanding, proficient, exceptional and to achieve a task in a unique way that goes beyond the norm. When we consider the above definitions with the title, we would have two pathways that each student can take. First, is the road that leads to academic excellence and second is, the other road to academic disaster. Meanwhile, the factors that militate against academic excellence and successes of every student are often, common. It now depends on the decisions that each student make to either overcome or subscribe to such factors.

Extrinsic and Intrinsic Factors

Most importantly, when we talk about Militating factors against academic excellence, it can be grouped into two, either extrinsic or Intrinsic. By extrinsic factors, we imply externally-based challenges while Intrinsic factors are internally-based challenges that can affect a student's optimum performance in his/her academic endeavor.

Using Nigeria as case study, there are obviously more extrinsic than Intrinsic factors that may militate against student's academic excellence. The most critical among these factors is:

1). poor leadership: It has been a bane resulting to many socio-political crises in the country and cuts across all sectors. (i.e. education, economy, governance). It is simply a condition in which inefficient personnel occupy leadership offices in a state. In such case, the leaders may implement unfavourable policies that contradict educational soundness. For instance, many Nigerian students have been victims of incessant strike actions by certain educational bodies. During strikes, the academic curriculum and agenda of affected institutions are fractured and destabilised. There have been situations where students spend months running into years at home idle and waiting for the government to reach an agreement with concerned educational bodies/agitators. In such case, by the time a student would resume his/her academic work, s/he may not record significant success.

In addition, still connected to the issue of poor leadership are curricular reassessment and low-budget for the educational sector by the Nigerian government. In Nigeria, there have not been any significant reassessment of educational curricular and quality control since Independence. The general and current curricular was bequeathed to the nation by Europeans. There is currently, a dire need to reassess the Nigerian education sector, owing to the increase of unemployed graduates leaving tertiary institutions yearly. Apart from this, there is need for reappraisal of curricular which is meant to meet current not post demands of the nation and must include entrepreneurial and skill-acquisition programmes. Such programmes will grant focus not only to students at the tertiary level but those in secondary and primary levels. Having said this, a nation that refuses to invest in the education of her citizenry may not enjoy the benefits of enlightenment.

2). Family challenge: Beyond the ever-increasing governmentally-induced challenges, there is also the family challenge. Every student is a representative of a home therefore, positive or negative situation in a home may affect the performance and potentiality of a student. A case where a student is a child to an unstable, abusive, divorced or separated parents, s/he may become traumatised psychologically and will inadvertently, affect the student's academic performance.

3). Societally-induced challenge: There are also societally-induced challenges, for instance, in Nigeria there is the "get-quick-rich-syndrome" among Nigerian youths. They have been fed with vague idea of success without hard work or labour. There is an assumption that there is alternative to success gained from education. This idea is fostered by celebrity stories of dropouts and the advent of internet scamming. The social media, technology as well as social realities have brought a decline to ambition and passion of many Nigerian youths for education. Such social realities include unemployment of graduates which brings discouragement to the few with drive for education.

4). Poor educational background: As a corollary, there are some Intrinsic factors which are offshoots of extrinsic factors. For instance, students with poor educational background may experience fear and failure as students. In Nigeria, some well-to-do parents influence their children's academic performance through bribery and other schemes that create shortcuts for them out of rigorous academic processes. Children in such instance, may be unable to perform excellently in their academic endeavors.

5). Inefficient or unequipped teaching personnel academic institution: An academic institution with inefficient or unequipped teaching personnel may result to poor performance of students. Having said this, there are self-induced factors such as lack of drive to pursue success, laziness, truancy, low-self-esteem, poor study habits, la k of preparation for exams, inattentiveness in class, juvenile studentship, lack of mentorship, wrong choice of career and distractions through technological gadgets and romantic relationships.

As complement to the above factors, Crosnoe, Johnson and Elder (2004) identified thirty-two (32) general factors that may affect student's success and they include: fear, anxiety, confidence, concentration, health and well-being, social factors: peer group, family crisis, economic factors: financial problem and stress, environmental factors: good learning environment, class size, environmental condition (peaceful atmosphere within the locality of institution), teaching and training method, personal factors: lack of reading habit and reading plan, unwillingness to take responsibility, time mismanagement, lack of desire, decision and determination, negative attitude towards education, lack of initiative, poor literacy skills of students, immaturity, apathy, poor exam preparation, academic factors: imbalance of theory and practice of a course of study and heavy course workload by teachers.

In sum, through this study, we have been able to highlight several factors that can affect a student from recording outstanding academic success. However, a careful observation at the above factors indicate that academic success is a combined effort of several personnel (i.e. parents, society, government/non-governmental organizations, educational bodies, proprietors and teachers) and then, the student. On this premise, we therefore, recommend that the Nigerian government should increase the quota for academic sector and also, create a regular reassessment of educational policies, teachers as well as educational bodies should be given sufficient motivation. Moreover, educational bodies should create fascinating online resources that students can engage while learning at the same time. Significantly, there would always be challenges working against the academic excellence/performance of students however, each student has the self-will to determine what outcome s/he wishes to have.

There are so many things you will have to find in life as a man. So many things you need to succeed in life and live a colorful life might not be within your reach. You have to got to engage in meaningful search for you to lay hold of them. One of such important discovery you must make in life is the discovery of your marriage partner. You must find a wife that will understand you for who you are, and if that as been fulfilled in your life and you have now found that lady that will become your life partner in marriage, i congratulate you.
But, note this truth: if you found her, and you don't know what to do next, you can still lose her. Finding a lady to marry is not enough, you must know what are the necessary things or steps you must take to secure her. This is the focus of this post. I want to share with you all, things you must not do when you have found her and things you must do when you have found her so she won't slip off your hands.

Things you must not do now that you have found her

Before i talk on things you must do after you have found her, let me talk on things you must not do first.
1). Don't start calling her pet names: Even if you are sure this lady is the one your heart is leading you to, as your wife, and you have found her. This is not a license for you to start calling her pet names like "Sweetheart", "Darling", "Mine", "My treasure", "My heart beat", etc. Keep that for now! It is a turn off for most ladies. You have not even proposed marriage to her and you have started calling her pet and romantic name here and there, it can make you to eventually lose her.

2). Don't start telling people you are in a relationship with her: I have seen many guys, displaying this ignorance and irritating attitude. Just because you have "received" a lady in your dream or vision, without proposing to her first and know whether she will be interested in marrying, you or not, you started announcing it to everybody who cares to listen that, you are already in a relationship with her. Mine take here is don't do that, because this might make you lose her.  Because many ladies dislike such behavior.

3). Proposing to her with threat: Another thing many guys do when they have found ladies to marry is to go and propose to ber with threat. They threaten the sisters with visions and dreams. Like a brother who proposed to a lady by saying "God said if you don't marry me, you cannot have peaceful marriage". Brother, that's an empty threat. You will be making a very great mistake, going to threatening a lady all in the name of proposing to her.

4). Sudden generosity: Another thing you must not do when you have just found a lady is a "Sudden Generosity". It is not time to start giving her money, buying her shoes or asking for her account number and be crediting her account with money just to win her heart. A sensitive lady can sense if you are giving her gifts just to keep her and buy her over. It is good to be a generous guy but don't just start it to impress, trap or buy a lady over because you want to win her heart when you eventually propose to her.

5). Disturbing her inbox with unnecessary chats/questions/information: Have you found her? Please don't do this! Don't go into her indox on Facebook messenger or Whatsapp to be asking her irrelevant questions like, "Have you eaten", "Are you a virgin?", "Where are you?", "What are you doing presently?", etc. All these are childish questions that can piss off a lady. Don't become a pest because your heart longs for her.
Also, don't feed her with information that is not necessary for now. "I have 1million naira in my savings account and 2 million naira in my current account and 100 dollars in my Domiciliary account". Brother, you don't need to give her all those news for now!

I have found her, what next?

Now let's look at things/steps to take now that you have found her:
1). Make some important findings about her: make necessary findings and research about her. Now that you have found out, carry out some investigations about her. Ask questions from her in a wise way. Ask about her age, present relationship status, genotype, what she likes, what her favourite food, etc.

2).  Propose to her if your findings about her are okay by you: The next thing to do is to go and propose to her. Be sure! Be concise and be brief. Don't go there to share your 65 visions and dreams. Don't threaten her. You can tell her that you have prayed about her and you have the leading from the lord to come to her. Also, declare your love for her. Tell her you want to marry her not just date her. Ask her for when to come for her reply. Encourage her to go and pray on the proposal and take her time to make her decision. But ask her when you should come for her response.

3). Give her enough time to think about it: Yes, don't rush her. Don't send people to her to help you beg her "Yes" to your proposal. Don't give her gift while she is still on your proposal. You can't buy true love with money. Let it flow naturally.

4). Start your courtship: If she comes to give you "YES" as an answer to your proposal, start your courtship. If she says "NO" don't fight her. Don't manipulate her. You can ask her to still think about it for the second time and if after all said and done, she still insist "NO", then, let her be! God will give you another/better person. But if her answer is "YES". Congratulation. Start a pure courtship and use the period of courtship to prepare for a glorious wedding and a glorious marriage.

I found her; what next?

Every great leader has his own peculiarity and what makes him thick and different from others. He has what many do not have that makes him being sought after or that could be responsible for his success and glory. Such things may not be visible to all, except those with keen interest and studious that such values or virtues may be exposed to. It is one thing to know a thing it is another thing to imbibe such qualities. This post will saddle itself with discovering what makes hardworking student leader becomes outstanding and how can such virtues be grasped with the focus of making impact in one's generation as a good student leader and by extension cause positive waves when one is out of campus. We must affirmed that there is a difference between a winning student leader and a mediocre one. The difference include:

1). Classification of concepts

a). Secret life: In this context, secret life is deducted to mean facts and nature that are privy to a person and which make such a person stands out. It has to do with habits, lifestyles, attitudes, behaviors and the likes that one has developed over time or is developing. Again, it also suggests the private things, rigors and disciplines one goes through in private that translates to public glare in terms of success and the personality that all see outwardly. This is far from negative connotation of double standard. What makes it secret is that not everyone knows about it and those who know about it are the ones profiting from it.

b). Student: Wikipedia sees a student as 'a person enrolled in a school or other educational institution who attends classes in a course to attain the appropriate level of mastery. In the broader sense, a student is anyone who applies themselves to the intensive intellectual engagement with some matter necessary to master it as part of some practical affair in which such mastery is basic or decisive' while a student leader is one whose minds is being broaden and enlightened. A student leader is different from 'just' a student. The difference is this 'a student leader takes the responsibility of other students through leading'.

c). Leader: Several conceptualizations of the word leader has been done by several scholars but permit me to abide with the word 'influence' as used by John Maxwell. It will be inappropriate to study the secret life of a leader without focusing on how such an exercise will influence the followership.

2). Types of student leaders

This is not comprehensive but it will make attempt to discuss some

a).  Garrulous leaders: Some student leaders are gifted in talking than in doing. His words are more heard than his actions are seen.

c). Reflective leaders: Some leaders are great thinkers and their meditative capacity are brought to bear on their leadership enterprise.
d). Critical leaders: Some leaders are so critical of the actions of the followers. They easily see errors of others.
e). Emotional leaders: Some leaders display a lot of emotions. They cannot rule over their emotions. This could be seen in terms of emotional outbursts like anger and the likes.
f). Evaluative leaders: Some leaders are quick in taking a comprehensive look at situations and assessing it with the mindset that the fellowship may get better and stronger.
g). Understanding leaders: Some leaders have the capacity to put themselves in others position and make attempt to understand the feelings of their followers and why some followers do what they did.
h). Sympathetic leaders: Some leaders feel the pains of their followers. They show empathy to them.
i). Prayerful leaders: Some leaders are given to praying to God on all issues and circumstances.
j). Consulting leaders: Some leaders cannot do anything on their own without first consulting with someone else or a group.

3). Functions of a student leader

a). Instruction: Student leaders are to provide instructions for the followers, this is to be done to build lives and provide direction. As a leader, he must be guided by the same instruction and precept.
b). Direction: Leaders are supposed to know the way. They guide and direct on matters that will bring common good to all.
c). Exemplary: Leaders lead not by talking alone but by real and true action. They walk their talk.
d). Organizing: It is the duty of the leader to structure and mold the fellowship and order of things within it in a way that will bring growth, He is supposed to lead in making proper arrangements in terms of the day to day activities and running the fellowship.
e). Decision making: Leaders have no choice but to make decision. Decision making is part of the day to day necessity of leadership. Every leader needs to develop the skill of making decisions because it is needful. The success of any leader will be determined by how good the culmination of all the decisions such a leader turn out to be. A leader is a success or a failure depending on his decision on making skill. Leaders make decisions and they cannot run away from making it as well.
f). Delegation of responsibility: Leaders do not do it alone. He needs to delegate responsibility. He assigns roles and responsibilities to followers so that the fellowship can be run efficiently.
g). Image making: The leader is the image maker for the fellowship and he needs to position himself in the same vein.
h). Information sharing: He shares information with the fellowship members and those who are outside the fellowship too on matters that they need to know about.

4). Importance of good student leadership

a). In instituting growth
b). Discipline
c). Focus and direction
d). Orderliness and structure
e). Harmony in units and sub groups
f). Information flow
g). Strong institution

5). Secret life of a good student leader

1. Authentic: He lives true to his calling, declaration and expectation. He does not do some things privately that negates ethos and values
2. Love: Love is not about giving but giving should be part of love. He loves without thinking of personal gains
3. Looking on the things of others: He looks after the things of others and make sure that it succeeds
4. Humility: He knows that pride goes before destruction. So he is meek and gentle
5. Taking the form of a servant: He is ready to serve rather than being served
6. Long suffering: He possesses the ability to be wronged again and again and still the offender opportunity for him to make amend
7. Purposeful investment: He intentionally make investment into others. He knows that people are the greatest assets that one can have
8. Submission to discipline: If he errs he submit himself to discipline. He takes responsibility of the error and abides by the punishments accruing to it
9. Readiness to pay the sacrifice needed to become a better person first before becoming a better leader
10. Place values on others: He respects others and knows that they are tangible things to offer
11. Self-observation: He takes personal inventory and does self-criticism with the mind to help himself
12. Contentment: He is contented and not derailed by what others have
13. Open to discipleship
14. Know his limitations
15. Have mentors/ those who are mentoring him
16. See leadership as a privilege
17. Rely on strength of others
18. Identify leadership qualities of others and maximize it
19. Communicates effectively
20. Abides by his words: He keeps promises
21. Maintains and builds relationships.

For every good student leader to stand tall, he needs to build himself and be ready to be build too. It is pertinent to know that success does not just happen but made to happen. When a good student leader is doing well, we must know that he is paying or has paid the sacrifice. The readiness to give it what it takes is one thing that several leaders may not possess and a good student leader must not lack.
Every success has the story behind it. This story may not be explicit to all but they are here. They are the principles by which things happen and which every succeeding good leader abibes with. Leading effectively and efficiently requires that such a leader should go through the normal process. This will enhance his success as a good leader.

The secret life of a student leader

By Peteroyewole → Friday, July 10, 2020

No house is built without a foundation. The foundation of a house determines the type, the quality and life span of the structure to be built. Most times when a disaster either fire, flood or something else befalls a structure, if the foundation is a correct and strong one, you will always find the foundation still standing. Leadership is so important that it does not operate in the vacuum; it must have a foundation and a strong one for that matter. When you see failing, falling and crumbling leaders and leadership, examine the foundation of such leaders and leadership institution, you will discover that it is faulty.

Leadership is what we see, experience and practice on daily basis because virtually everyone is involved one way or the other, be it at home, work, school, church, group, union, organization, community or general society. Each person moves from one level or kind of leadership to another from time to time. The propelling and sustaining force in position of leadership is the matter of foundation. Someone with a sound and strong foundation will move and get to the peak. Though he stumbles at one time or the other, he will rise again and move on. Those with weak foundations may get to the top, but when they have no capability to get up again they fall.

Definition of keywords

Let define the words in the topic which is "Foundation and Leadership".

i). Foundation: This is defined as the basis on which something is grounded. The act of starting something for the first time; introducing something new. The fundamental assumption from which something is begun or developed. In other words, it is a preliminary process upon which a structure or institution is built.

ii). Leadership: it is a God-giving opportunity to affect and influence people positively. It is the action of leading a group of people or an organization with the ability to inspire or influence them towards specific organizational goal through clearly stated vision and innovation. He ensures that the followers willingly do things they perhaps would not have done.

Component of foundations to leadership

1). Good followership: A bad follower can never become a good leader. The daily life experience shows that people are always both leader and follower simultaneously. You lead in a particular level and setting and some other places you are a follower. When you have not been able to distinguish yourself as a responsible follower where you serve, it will be practically impossible for you to lead responsibly.  Somebody wrote a petition against his boss in office. After a while the boss retired from the office but kept a copy of the petition somewhere in the office. The petitioner took over from him in the office and as he was arranging hos office after he had stayed there for some years, he found the petition he wrote against his former boss and discovered that he was guilty of eleven out of sixteen petitions he wrote against his boss. Leadership is a privilege and is by grace, whoever aspires to be a good leader must take time to follow responsibly.

2). Training: As part of solid foundation for leadership, training is crucial to a successful leadership responsibility. It gives competence and confidence. The training could be formal or informal depending on the nature or the extent of leadership. Formal training is required in ministerial, professional, political career leadership responsibilities for the purpose of confidence and excellent. Some other tenured or temporary leadership responsibility may require informal or short-term training. Some people have messed up and still messing up leadership opportunities because they failed to submit themselves for foundational training and self-development.

3). Self-discipline: An excelling leader must possess a background and adequate history of spiritual and moral discipline to avoid a sudden crash in leadership positions. Some leaders that fail and fall when they are almost at the peak of their career had possibly indulge in some level of indiscipline.

4). Pains and trials of faith: Can make one a good leader. For instance, somebody who suffered the pain of being sexually abused at a tender age can become an advocate or a voice working with Government and non-government organizations to promote children right and ways of protecting young ladies against sexual harassment. The first American female medical doctor developed a passion for medicine because one of her close friends died of a gynecological issue which she was not willing to disclose to any male doctor. Another lady started a work around the survival of people with sickle cell anemia because she suffered a lot from that health condition. Don't allow your pain to waist; build up a ministry around it.

5). Determination and focus: 'No cross no crown' for someone to fulfil in leadership responsibility, there will always be barrier obstacles and distractions. It takes a man of determination and focus to scale through huddles of life and get to his destined place in leadership.

6). Diligence: There is dignity in labor. You don't find gold on the surface; you must use energy and time to dig deep before getting at it. Diligence in doing something extra and special gives you an edge over and above others.
Diligent readers always emerge as leaders using the garnered knowledge to impart lives. Lazy and idle people do not have capacity to bear people's burden and therefore will not be given leadership responsibility.

Indices of solid foundations to leadership

1). Faith and conviction: You will obviously see faith and conviction in people with strong foundation. Such people will always be willing to die as they discharge their assigned responsibilities. They are not moved by what people do or say as long as they are sure of God's hand and presence around them in the assignment.

2). Compassion and sacrificial love: leaders with solid foundation are motivated by compassion and they are always ready to give their time, resources and even their lives to accomplish their purpose in leadership responsibilities.

3). Service: Leaders with solid foundation will love to serve with great passion. Either people recognize, appreciate, reward or not, they are always active and enthusiastic about discharging their leadership responsibility by serving their subjects rather than being served.

4). Humility: Leaders with good foundation are humble in discharging their responsibilities. They are always accessible, approachable and willing to attend to people's situations without complain or murmur.
To them humility is the secret behind promotion, excellence and fulfillment in leadership.

5). Integrity: You will always find consistency in the speech and deeds of a leader with good foundation. You can hold them by their word at all time.

6). Accountability: They regularly prepare their report and submit to the appropriate quarters for the purpose of feedback, clarity and transparency in their stewardship.

7). Purity and exemplary character: They lead by example with high sense of spiritual and moral purity. People are more influenced positively by what they do than what they say.

8). Visionary: They develop vision and mobilize all stakeholders towards the realization of the organization set goal.

9). Quality relationship: They cherish relationship far above the assignment in their hands.

10). Good temperament and large heart: Leaders with good foundation create space in their hearts to accommodate people with different background and opinions in accomplishing set goals, harnessing and maximizing God's potential and gifting in people's lives.

Blessings of quality foundation in leadership

1). Good legacy: People who by good foundation make great impact on people's lives will definitely become a reference point.

2). Fruitfulness: It may not matter how long people with great impact and influence live, their fruit will continue to speak and spread.

3). Sense of fulfillment: Such people who make great impact are always confident of the fact that no matter the challenge and difficulty they encounter in the course of their leadership disposition, they believe their life is never a waist. They are satisfied fulfilling divine mandate.

A Yoruba adage says: A child that will be responsible in adulthood will always demonstrate sense of responsibility right from childhood. As it will be too late for snake to start looking for a hole to enter when the bush is already burning so it will be late for someone looking for leadership opportunity at adulthood.
This is to say that as much as possible, young people should take the best advantage of being exposed to the rudiment of leadership foundations like: self-discipline, self-determination, diligence, and focus among others, for future quality leadership in the society. Becoming an effective leadership is not something that can suddenly be grabbed in adulthood stage; it is something that must start right from youth, building trust and confidence in people who will at later time willingly submit to have such people as their leaders.
